Learn the article with the noun
Treat the article as part of the word. Instead of learning Haus, learn das Haus. Saying and writing the pair together builds a stronger memory than adding gender later.
Use endings as clues
German noun endings often suggest gender. Nouns ending in -ung, -heit, and -keit are commonly feminine, while diminutives ending in -chen and -lein are neuter. These are useful patterns, not substitutes for checking each noun.
Group and contrast vocabulary
Practice nouns in small themed groups and deliberately contrast similar words with different genders. Retrieval becomes easier when vocabulary has context and visual associations.
Turn mistakes into a study list
Incorrect answers show exactly what to review. Save uncertain nouns, practice them in short sessions, and return to them after a delay instead of repeating only the words you already know.
