Learn useful verbs first
Begin with verbs that appear frequently in daily speech: sein, haben, werden, gehen, machen, kommen, and modal verbs. High-frequency vocabulary gives every practice session more value.
Practice one tense at a time
Build confidence with Präsens before mixing in Präteritum, Perfekt, and the subjunctive forms. Isolating one pattern lowers cognitive load and makes irregular changes easier to notice.
Use active recall
Looking at a conjugation table feels familiar but does not prove you can produce the form. Flashcards and short quizzes force retrieval, which is the skill needed during conversation and writing.
Review mistakes deliberately
Save difficult verbs, revisit incorrect answers, and alternate between recognition and production. A few focused minutes every day usually works better than an occasional long session.
